Kitchen Hints and Tips

Bulking Up

You are trying to be more cautious with your money, therefor you are shopping more sales. Meat is on sale, but the only problem is you don't know how long it will last in the freezer.

When I get it home I break down the packages of meat into family sized servings. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap, then I wrap it securely in foil. With a permanent marker I indicate the type of meat in the package and the month and year that I bought it.

Chicken:
Uncooked - 1 Year
Cooked Meat Only - 4 months
Cooked/Prepared/Casserole-3 months

Beef:
Uncooked Beef - 9 year
Cooked Meat - 6 months
Cooked/Prepared/Casserole-3 months

Pork:
Uncooked Pork - 6 months
Cooked Pork - 4 months
Cooked/Prepared/Casserole-3 months

Frozen Fruits/Vegetables - 1 Year

Baked Bread Products and Tortillias - 4 months

Butter (sealed in plastic bags to prevent flavor pickup)- 6 months
